Over Rika
I have taught students Japanese and English at a cram-school known as “塾（じゅく）” in Japan. Ever since I came to the Gold Coast, I have been tutoring Japanese as I’m passionate about teaching my culture and language to other people. My students are from different backgrounds, ages and levels of Japanese proficiency. I differentiate my teaching to suit each student’s educational context. My lessons focus on real-life practical Japanese and cultivate students’ interests in the language, because I believe these two elements are instrumental in effective language learning. In Japan, students tend to consistently achieve goals in their grammar and reading, however, they often struggle with listening and speaking comparatively. I realized that this is because of the lack of: 1. speaking practice in class 2. opportunities to utilize English in day-to-day life 3. confidence in speaking to fluent speakers. Learning a language requires a variety of study methods across a variety of modes and formats. You cannot achieve fluency in a language from reading only textbooks, or copying the same words 100 times on a notepad. Effective language learning requires a considerable amount of output and active engagement. Furthermore, engagement with the culture will give vital context and assist you in the comprehension of Japanese grammar and syntax. And as your tutor also as someone who has been through a language journey, I will be 100% there for you at every step of your Japanese language journey. I look forward to hearing from you, Rika

こんにちは。I'm Rika from Japan. I have taught Japanese and English at cram school and have been tutoring Japanese for about 7 years. My focus in our lessons is "practicality". If you are looking for a tutor that teaches you "real Japanese" that is actually used in Japan, I'm definitely for you. I like to make our lessons as practical, useful and enjoyable as possible. You will receive homework from each lesson which I create right after the lesson. We have lesson packs for different levels of proficiency. (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced/Expert/Samurai/Kids) Our lesson normally operates as: review from last lesson (20min) learn new grammar (20min) speaking (20min)
