Since his childhood, Martin Bertrand has always been attracted by the arts. His holidays were always accompanied by his disposable camera, his first steps in this world. The discovery of photography really appeared at the age of 14. Being hyperactive by nature, he was quickly seduced by the immediacy of the photographic medium.
After obtaining his baccalaureate, he naturally followed a professional training course in photography, which enabled him to develop a solid technique and to learn the mechanics of the profession.
Through his experiences, he quickly became aware of the power of photography and the possibilities that were open to him in terms of travel and discovery. His curiosity allows him to take a unique look at his contemporaries and the world we live in.
In June 2016, Martin fell in love with Hans Lucas. The studio took a gamble on his potential and decided to give him a boost.
Through his numerous personal projects, he is particularly interested in youth and geo-environmental issues. The 21st century and the upheavals that accompany it particularly fascinate him.
During 2017 and 2018, he carried out numerous projects in South-East Asia where he was able to work for seven months. The most important of these is entitled The Faces of the Mekong. Using the mythical Mekong River and its resources as a common thread, it provides a broad perspective on the geo-environmental issues related to development in the Indochinese peninsula (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand).
He has also focused on Vietnamese and Laotian youth through the prism of street sports and urban culture.
In 2019, he travelled to Hong Kong to cover, among other things, the uprising of the pro-democracy movement, which earned him a nomination for the Bayeux Prize for War Correspondents in the Young Reporter category.
In parallel to his projects, Martin also responds to commissions from the press, NGOs and private companies.
His work is regularly published in the French and international press (Le Monde, Libération, The Washington Post, Le Figaro, Vice, Reporterre, Mr Mondialisation, Fisheye Magazine).
They have been awarded several times, including the François Chalais Young Reporter of the Year Award 2015 in the photo category. He was a finalist for the Grand Prix Paris Match du Photoreporter étudiant and a winner of the Young Talents Photo Prize by fotofever.
These projects also lead to exhibitions and conferences.

Sinds zijn kindertijd is Martin Bertrand altijd al aangetrokken geweest door de kunsten. Zijn vakanties gingen altijd gepaard met zijn wegwerpcamera, zijn eerste stappen in deze wereld. De ontdekking van de fotografie begon pas echt op 14-jarige leeftijd. Omdat hij van nature hyperactief is, werd hij al snel verleid door de onmiddellijkheid van het fotografische medium.
Na het behalen van zijn baccalaureaat volgde hij uiteraard een beroepsopleiding fotografie, waardoor hij een solide techniek kon ontwikkelen en de mechanica van het vak leerde.
Door zijn ervaringen werd hij zich al snel bewust van de kracht van de fotografie en de mogelijkheden die voor hem openstonden op het gebied van reizen en ontdekkingen. Zijn nieuwsgierigheid stelt hem in staat een unieke blik te werpen op zijn tijdgenoten en de wereld waarin wij leven.
In juni 2016 werd Martin verliefd op Hans Lucas. De studio gokte op zijn potentieel en besloot hem een duwtje in de rug te geven.
Via zijn talrijke persoonlijke projecten is hij vooral geïnteresseerd in jeugd- en geomilieukwesties. De 21e eeuw en de omwentelingen die daarmee gepaard gaan, fascineren hem bijzonder.
In 2017 en 2018 heeft hij talrijke projecten uitgevoerd in Zuidoost-Azië, waar hij zeven maanden heeft kunnen werken. De belangrijkste daarvan is getiteld De gezichten van de Mekong. Met de mythische Mekong-rivier en haar hulpbronnen als rode draad biedt het een breed perspectief op de geo-ecologische vraagstukken in verband met de ontwikkeling op het Indochinese schiereiland (Vietnam, Cambodja, Laos, Thailand).
Hij heeft zich ook gericht op Vietnamese en Laotiaanse jongeren door het prisma van de straatsporten en de stadscultuur.
In 2019 reisde hij naar Hongkong om onder meer de opstand van de pro-democratiebeweging te verslaan, wat hem een nominatie opleverde voor de Bayeux Prijs voor Oorlogscorrespondenten in de categorie Jonge Verslaggever.
Parallel aan zijn projecten reageert Martin ook op opdrachten van de pers, NGO's en particuliere bedrijven.
Zijn werk wordt regelmatig gepubliceerd in de Franse en internationale pers (Le Monde, Libération, The Washington Post, Le Figaro, Vice, Reporterre, Mr Mondialisation, Fisheye Magazine).

PRACTICAL OUTING
For a more concrete and playful practice of photography, this outing will allow us to work on different aspects of photography:
- Mastering your camera, whatever it is. If you practice photography with your smartphone, you are also welcome.
- Work on framing and composition.
- Using light as raw material
- Learning about street photography.
- Post-production of photographs on Lightroom (only on request).
IN-DEPTH TRAINING
The training consists in accompanying you in the development of your photographic projects and in the setting up of your activity of photographer. This training concerns photography as I practice it. That is to say, photography that speaks of the world in which we live and which, at the same time, is creative with a real aesthetic research. In other words, we are halfway between photo reportage, documentary photography and artistic photography.
This programme is tailored to each student and is divided into two main parts
1) The creative process :
- Developing personal photographic writing
- Preparing and carrying out projects
- Assimilate the photographic narrative and the codes of photoreportage
- Knowing how to be a versatile photographer to diversify your sources of income
- Responding to a photographic commission
2) An activity that is a source of income in the long term:
- Communicate well with the right tools
- Finding funding for your projects
- Sell your projects and photographs through various channels
- Mastering productivity techniques to be efficient while remaining independent
- Find clients and trigger concrete orders
- Multiply your sources of income
With this training, I will be at your side to accompany you in the different stages of this process. Together we will set your concrete short and long term goals and we will work day by day on the best method to reach them.
In concrete terms, the training is made up of working meetings by videoconference or in person.
This training does not require a particular age or level of education. Nevertheless, certain prerequisites are necessary such as a good general culture (to understand the world in which we live), a certain maturity as well as a basic technical mastery of photography.

PRAKTISCH UITJE
Voor een meer concrete en speelse beoefening van de fotografie zal dit uitstapje ons in staat stellen aan verschillende aspecten van de fotografie te werken:
- Het beheersen van je camera, wat het ook is. Als u met uw smartphone fotografeert, bent u ook welkom.
- Werk aan kadrering en compositie.
- Licht als grondstof gebruiken
- Leren over straatfotografie.
- Post-productie van foto's in Lightroom (alleen op verzoek).
GRONDIGE OPLEIDING
De opleiding bestaat erin u te begeleiden bij de ontwikkeling van uw fotografische projecten en bij het opzetten van uw activiteit als fotograaf. Deze training betreft fotografie zoals ik die beoefen. Dat wil zeggen, fotografie die spreekt over de wereld waarin wij leven en die tegelijkertijd creatief is met een echt esthetisch onderzoek. Met andere woorden, wij houden het midden tussen fotoreportage, documentaire fotografie en artistieke fotografie.
Dit programma wordt op maat gemaakt voor elke student en bestaat uit twee hoofdonderdelen
1) Het creatieve proces :
- Ontwikkeling van persoonlijk fotografisch schrijven
- Voorbereiding en uitvoering van projecten
- Het fotografische verhaal en de codes van de fotoreportage assimileren
- Weten hoe je een veelzijdig fotograaf kunt zijn om je inkomstenbronnen te diversifiëren
- Reageren op een fotografische opdracht
2) Een activiteit die op lange termijn een bron van inkomsten vormt:
- Communiceer goed met de juiste hulpmiddelen
- Financiering vinden voor uw projecten
- Verkoop uw projecten en foto's via verschillende kanalen
- Beheersing van productiviteitstechnieken om efficiënt te zijn en toch onafhankelijk te blijven
- Klanten vinden en concrete orders uitschrijven
- Vermenigvuldig uw bronnen van inkomsten
Met deze opleiding zal ik aan uw zijde staan om u te begeleiden in de verschillende fasen van dit proces. Samen stellen we uw concrete korte- en langetermijndoelstellingen vast en werken we dag na dag aan de beste methode om ze te bereiken.
Concreet bestaat de opleiding uit werkvergaderingen per videoconferentie of in persoon.
Voor deze opleiding is geen bepaalde leeftijd of opleiding vereist. Toch zijn bepaalde voorwaarden noodzakelijk, zoals een goede algemene cultuur (om de wereld waarin wij leven te begrijpen), een zekere rijpheid en een fundamentele technische beheersing van de fotografie.
