Jax is een beeldende kunstenaar uit Antwerpen.
Na zijn Bacheloropleiding Fotografie startte Jax 28/03/96 in september 2022 de Masteropleiding Beeldende Kunsten
De fascinatie voor de nacht is een rode draad in Jax’ werk. Dat vertaalt zich in een spel van tegenstellingen: licht versus donker, rusteloos versus rustgevend, stad versus natuur, de overdrukte van de dag die ’s nachts tot zachtheid verwordt.
Een kat trekt er ’s nachts op uit, een vleermuis ontwaakt wanneer de duisternis valt. Zo ook beweegt Jax zich gehuld in de sluier van de nacht. Zijn oog ziet wat wij niet zien. Hij komt waar wij niet gaan. Met zijn werk maakt hij duisternis hoorbaar en elektriciteit proefbaar.
Benzodia is een tweeledige installatie: enerzijds is er fotografisch werk dat als diavoorstelling in loop wordt afgespeeld. Dit combineert Jax met een bijna-film – een opvolging van 2000 stills. Het geheel wordt gedragen door een begeesterende sound.
Jax’ docenten omschrijven zijn werk in het algemeen, en Benzodia specifiek, als “gevoelig en kwetsbaar; je slaagt erin een emotie over te brengen”. De eigenzinnige en emotionele stijl is inderdaad beklijvend.
