Lesson Plan: Exploring Short Stories - Unraveling Plot and Characterization

Activity 2: Exploring Characterization (30 minutes): Character Profiles: Introduce the concept of characterization. Students create character profiles for the main characters in the assigned short stories. Include physical traits, personality traits, and motivations. Encourage use of sticky notes for comments or questions.
Activity 3: Class Discussion (20 minutes): Sharing Insights: Gather for discussion. Ask student to share one interesting aspect of their story's plot or characterization.
Comparisons and Contrasts: Discuss commonalities and differences between the stories. Explore how various authors approach plot and characterization differently.
Conclusion (15 minutes): Recap the key points about plot and characterization.
Assign homework: Ask students to find a short story or excerpt online, analyze its plot and characterization, and be prepared to share their findings in the next class.
Assessment: Evaluate participation during discussions. Review character profiles created by student. Assess individual understanding through homework submissions.
