Over Agil

Let op: de lessen worden in het Engels gegeven. Voor kinderen die nog geen Engels spreken is mijn les helaas niet geschikt.

Please note: all lessons are taught in English.

I am Agil Pirverdiyev, a FIDE Master from Baku, Azerbaijan, and a FIDE-certified coach. Fifteen years of teaching, more than 100 students, all of them online.

Classical rating 2411, rapid 2508. Under 16 World Champion in 2011, Under 14 European Champion, team silver medal at the Chess Olympiad. I also hold a FIDE arbiter title and have won open tournaments in Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain.

Chess is my full-time work rather than something I do alongside another job. Most of the people who come to me are players whose rating stopped moving and who could not work out why on their own, and parents of children who have outgrown the school chess club.

How a lesson works: you send me two or three of your recent games before we meet. I go through them beforehand, and in the lesson we look at the exact moments where the game was decided - not at general theory.

Most players lose points to the same two or three habits, again and again. The work is to name those habits and remove them one at a time. That is slower than any promise of instant mastery, and it is the only thing that actually moves a rating.

For children: the basics done properly - seeing the whole board, keeping pieces safe, finishing a won endgame. Every lesson ends with one concrete thing to practise, so parents can see what is being worked on.

For adults and tournament players: an opening repertoire you can actually hold in your head, calculation training, and honest analysis of your own games.

The first lesson is free and takes 30 minutes. Send me your games and I will tell you what I would work on, before you commit to anything.
