Agil Pirverdiyev - FIDE Master and FIDE-certified coach, based in Baku, Azerbaijan. Fifteen years of coaching and more than 100 students, all online.

Rating 2411 classical, 2508 rapid. Under 16 World Champion in 2011, Under 14 European Champion, team silver medal at the Chess Olympiad. FIDE arbiter title, and open tournament victories in Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain.

Most of my Dutch students are adults who play a lot online, know plenty of theory, and still cannot get past the rating they reached years ago. That is the problem I am best at solving.

WHAT YOU SEND ME FIRST

Two or three of your recent games - a Lichess or Chess.com link is enough - plus one line about what frustrates you most. I look at them before we meet, so the first session starts with your chess, not with introductions.

THE FIRST LESSON IS FREE, 30 MINUTES

I open your games and show you the two or three habits that are actually costing you rating, then give you a plan: what to fix, in what order, and roughly how long it takes. If you decide not to continue, keep the plan anyway.

HOW LESSONS RUN

- One to one, online, on a shared board.
- We work from your own games or from last week's task.
- At the decisive moment I stop and ask what you saw. You calculate; I correct the method behind the calculation.
- Every lesson ends with one specific task for the week, and you get the analysis in writing.

ADULTS WHO HAVE STOPPED IMPROVING

This is most of my work. You know the theory, you play regularly, and the rating has not moved in years. It is almost never a knowledge gap. It is a short list of repeating errors - rushing quiet positions, playing without a plan once the opening ends, weak endgame technique, panicking in sharp play. We name them and remove them one at a time.

JUNIORS AND TOURNAMENT PLAYERS

An opening repertoire you can actually recall with the clock running. Targeted calculation training. Preparation before events and honest analysis afterwards, including the losses.

CHILDREN

Board awareness, piece safety, and converting won positions - with a short summary for parents after each lesson.

WHAT I WILL NOT CLAIM

Nobody becomes a master in thirty hours. Before you spend anything I will tell you what is realistic for your level and the time you can give.

PRACTICAL

- Online, one to one, in English.
- First lesson free, 30 minutes.
- Packages: 5 lessons, or 10 lessons with one free - you pay for nine and we play ten.

He goes through many lines very fast, sometimes it's a little hard to keep up for an amateur like me. But his knowledge is very valuable and has helped me structure my own practicing a lot. He has given resources on studying openings, middlegames and endgames. He's also a very friendly guy which really helps too! Looking forward to more lessons.

Excellent! Up to so far I had only an intro meeting so keep that in mind while reading this review.

For starters, Agil replies quickly which I really appreciated.

In the intro session we looked at my chess.com account insights. Unfortunately those games are 2+1 and 5 and 5+5 games that I play for fun and don't mind that much about the rating. That being said, Agil did provide some tips already that I can be more mindful about and act accordingly. He picked two games to get a bit of an idea of how I play. Based on that we touched shortly upon openings and new lines.

Furthermore, we looked at the basics like game position (who is better and why), piece (mis)placements and re-routing ideas, and which side of the board to attack. Usefull things to get back to. Recalibrating the basic understandings of chess based upon Agil's experience. Always good to get external experience to challenge own gameplay as an engine doesn't explain the why of the moves.

Ofcourse it is too early to tell from one session but I do expect that Agil can help me to improve my gameplay. Looking forward to it to say the lease.
