Over Lou
I am a qualified English teacher with several years of experience teaching English Language and Literature in both international and Dutch secondary education. I currently teach IB English A: Language & Literature at Diploma Programme level, alongside my role as an IB Coordinator.
I hold a Bachelor of Education in English Language & Literature and am completing a Master’s degree in English Language & Literature and Education. Throughout my career, I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and academic goals.
What I enjoy most about teaching English is helping students reach the point where something that previously seemed complicated suddenly starts to make sense. IB English can sometimes feel frustratingly subjective: students may know they need to “analyse more deeply” or “develop their argument”, without really knowing what that means in practice. I like turning that kind of feedback into something concrete and achievable.
My teaching style is friendly, patient and straightforward. You do not need to already be good at English A to work with me. Whether you are worried about passing the course or aiming for a 7, we will work from where you are now towards where you want to be.

My lessons are tailored to you and the grade you are working towards. Whether you are struggling to turn a 2 or 3 into a secure 4, or aiming to push a 5 towards a 6 or 7, we start by identifying exactly what is holding you back.
I specialise in IB English A: Language & Literature at SL and HL, including Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral (IO) and Higher Level Essay (HLE).
Lessons are practical and focused. Rather than spending an hour listening to me explain English, you will actively work with texts, plan responses, analyse authorial choices and practise writing. We will look at your existing work and feedback where possible, identify patterns, and focus on the areas where you can make the biggest improvement.
I particularly focus on helping students understand what the IB actually expects from them. If you find yourself staring at a Paper 1 without knowing where to start, struggling to move beyond identifying literary techniques, or receiving the same feedback on every essay, we can break those problems down into clear, manageable steps.
For students already achieving higher grades, lessons can instead focus on developing more sophisticated interpretations, stronger arguments and the precision needed to reach a 6 or 7.
My aim is ultimately to make you less dependent on tutoring, not more: to give you strategies and confidence that you can apply independently in your lessons and exams.
