Over Cory
After many years of gigging, teaching, and producing concerts in Toronto, I have moved to The Hague to pursue a Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire. My main interests lie in Early Music and Contemporary Classical music, but my curiosity extends widely across traditions and genres.
As a performer, I am classically trained on the cello, yet my studies have also included training with musicians from the Indian Carnatic, Iranian classical, and jazz traditions. In addition to performing, I am an active composer, with my music performed regularly in the Netherlands, across Europe, and abroad. My creative work has brought me into contact with a wide range of musicians, artists, filmmakers, and poets. This breadth of experience and perspective is one of my strengths, both as an artist and as a teacher.

My lessons prioritize my student’s interests and passion. I believe that learning is most effective when it feels relevant to your own musical goals. My method is not "one size fits all"; instead, I carefully select information that complements, strengthens, and connects your existing knowledge with your creative desires.
One constant in my teaching is the simultaneous development of both artistic and technical skills. I don’t believe theory should be taught in a vacuum. Instead, I focus on the integration of these two aspects, showing you how technical "rules" are actually tools to achieve your artistic vision. Furthermore, I believe it is vital to continually expose students to new pieces of music to stimulate their ears and broaden their creative palette.
While my lessons are rooted in artistic passion, I understand that many students have specific academic goals. Whether you are aiming for ABRSM, Trinity, or AP Music Theory, I provide a highly structured and efficient path to success. My method moves beyond "brute-force memorization." Instead, I teach the underlying logic—the "why"—which makes complex topics like the Circle of Fifths, transposition, and figured bass far easier to recall under pressure.
