Over Imke
I am Imke! I moved to the Netherlands almost 4 years ago. I LOVE teaching.
I studied Law at South African Law school in 2013 but something always pulled me teaching. Probably, because I come from a long family history of teachers. Including my mother.
I followed the calling and went on to student Education at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa. Where I met my husband.
We both always wanted to move abroad and chose The Netherlands. Almost 4 years later and still loving it. I have one son who is a toddler. Busy and always keep me on my toes, the way I like it.
Even though I will be your teacher, we can both learn from each other.
Every lesson doesn't have to be boring, but exciting and you'll walk away feeling more confident as each lesson passes. That one day on vacation you will be able to speak to locals in English, like a pro!

I have a degree in Foundation Phase Education, ages 4-12 years old. With experience, having taught English as a 2nd and 3rd language in Dubai for 2 years. As well as 3 years experience teaching in my home country of South Africa.
My approach to teaching is one of calmness that encourages optimal learning. My teaching is student directed and teacher facilitated. Where students feel involved in grasping knowledge.
The first lesson involves getting to know the student, what they like and dislike. As well as identity the strengths and points of improvement. We do this by taking a Baseline test. The test is a conversation, with questions on language structure, grammar and sentence construction.
After points are identified we take each point and work on it one lesson at a time.
We start by having a casual conversation in English and if students struggle, I can explain it in Dutch as well.
The lesson ends with a bit of homework to work on for the next session, example: Speak to someone in English for one day, write a short story about a dream you had or show and tell in English. Mistakes are a necessary welcome in learning.
A report is written in a lesson journel for feedback as well as a lesson plan can be given too.
