Over Andrew
I'm a native British English speaker and I've been living in the Netherlands for over a decade. Alongside teaching English, I work as a professional classical singer and as a writer and communicator, and both of those things directly shape how I teach.
The singing background means I've spent years studying how sounds are physically produced, how to adjust them, and how to coach other people through the same process. That turns out to be remarkably useful for pronunciation and accent work. If you're struggling with a particular sound or want to speak more naturally, I can usually hear exactly what's happening and help you fix it, not just tell you to "try again."
The writing and communications background means I've worked professionally with English at a high level: drafting press releases, political briefings, newsletters, stakeholder correspondence, and policy documents, as well as writing academically at a Dutch university. If you need your professional English to be not just correct but effective (clear emails, confident presentations, well-structured reports), I can help with that from direct experience rather than from a textbook.
I've spent enough time operating across languages and cultures to understand the particular frustrations and confidence gaps that come with working in a second language. I'm patient, I adapt to how you learn, and I take it seriously without making it stressful.

I don't run a fixed programme. In the first (free) lesson we'll work out what you actually need and build from there.
Pronunciation and accent work is where I'm most distinctive as a tutor. I bring a singer's ear and a practical understanding of how sounds are formed, which means I can offer specific, physical guidance rather than just "listen and repeat."
Professional and business English is another strength. If you're writing emails, reports, or presentations in English at work and want them to sound natural and polished, I can help you with tone, register, and structure: the things that separate "correct" English from "good" English.
Academic writing and essay structure, particularly for students working in English at Dutch or international universities.
General conversation and fluency for any level, from near-beginner to advanced speakers who want to sound more natural and confident.
I'm also happy to help with proofreading, job applications in English, or interview preparation. If you're not sure what you need, come to the first lesson and we'll figure it out.
