Hi there!! I’m Alan, and I’m thrilled to be your guide on your Flute journey!
I’ve spent 25+ years teaching the flute — and the last 10 years fully dedicated to online lessons. After a full decade teaching online students from all over the world, I’ve cracked the code on how to use technology to deliver lessons that are just as powerful, effective, and inspiring as in-person ones… sometimes even better!
As a Flute Specialist — meaning I have a Bacharel Degree on Flute from the Colchester Institute of Music and my entire professional musical life is laser-focused on this one instrument — I know exactly how the flute behaves, breathes, resonates, and evolves. And that deep expertise lets me guide you straight to the results you want, in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

* GOAL-ORIENTED LEARNING: Teacher Alan will focus on the songs and styles you want to play, from beginner to advanced levels.
* FIVE TAILORED MODULES: Progress through structured modules, each designed to enhance specific skills and techniques.
* SPECIAL MONTHLY EVENTS: Masterclasses, Workshops and Student Recitals every month, free of charge for students.
* IA COMPANION: Using IA technology, teacher Alan will provide the student a detailed summary of all topics discussed at the end of each lesson.
* PERSONALIZED SUPPORT: Receive a practice log, shared folder, and personal plans to track your progress and stay motivated.
* CERTIFICATES OF ACHIEVEMENT: Receive a beautifully designed Certificate of Achievement for each book and Module completed.
* FREE SUPPORT MATERIALS: All books and Sheet Music (pdf format) will be provided completely free of charge during all the student's study period. No extra costs with materials.
* QUARTER FEEDBACK: At the end of each quarter, teacher Alan will review with student how the past three months went, and what can be done for a more assertive progress for the following quarter.
* FULL SUPPORT IN BETWEEN LESSONS: The student will have full access to teacher Alan in between lessons for asking questions or sending videos and audios for analysis. This can be done via e-mail, iMessage or WhatsApp, whichever works best for the student.
* PRIVATE or 2-to-1 LESSONS: The Student can choose between having lessons alone or with a study partner. The 2-to-1 lessons being a more affordable option and the private (1-to-1) lessons a more personalized one.

LESSON STRUCTURE
My lessons are built around three fundamental pillars of flute playing: TONE, TECHNIQUE and MUSICALITY.
Each lesson is thoughtfully structured according to the student’s level — BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, or ADVANCED — with focused objectives and repertoire appropriate to each stage of development.
As the student progress, the emphasis within these pillars changes, ensuring steady technical growth, refined sound production, and deeper musical expression. This approach creates a solid foundation while continually encouraging artistic confidence.
TONE - 25% of the Lesson time
* Beginner will work on - Sound Focus, Tone Quality, Resonance
* Intermediate - Intonation, Dynamics, Homogeneity
* Advanced - Tone Color, Projection, Easiness
TECHNIQUE - 25% of the Lesson time
+ Beginner - Posture, Dexterity, Single Tonguing, Scales in one octave
+ Intermediate - Basic Articulation, Double Tonguing, Scales and Arpeggios in two octaves
+ Advanced - More complex Articulations, Scales and Arpeggios in three octaves, Triple Tonguing, Avant-gard techniques
MUSICALITY - 50% of te Lesson time
> Beginner - pieces within low g and middle g, square rhythm, tongued melodies, ear training and improvisation over cadences up to three chords
> Intermediate - pieces within low c and high g, dotted rhythms, tongued and slurs melodies, simple dynamic expressions, ear training and improvisation over cadences up to six chords
> Advanced - pieces within full range of the flute, fast, syncopated rhythms, varied articulated melodies, avant-gard techniques, complex dynamic expressions, ear training and improvisation over complex cadences

Perfect! Alan is a top class teacher. He is very knowledgeable, patient and explains, techniques, note reading and his expectations very well. I love the way he calms me down when I irritated by lack of progress and when I am too hard on myself.
He is also very understanding. I picked the flute / recorder lessons because I have a progressive lung disease and playing the recorder makes my lungs work harder. On a bad I cannot really play a whole piece and he is fully understanding and delicately suggest to have a break by telling me: let me show me what I mean…..and plays the piece. His sense of humor means that we have the occasional laugh too, which great. In summary if you do not book Alan it is your loss.- Great pupil! Developing really well! Alan is a great tutor. My daughter loves the way he teaches. He has changed her trajectory on learning recorder and now she looks forward to her class. Thank you so much for all the efforts you have put in.
Alan is a great teacher. He is very organized and knowledgeable, as well as patient and professional. Every lesson is planned, and he has been going with my pace with relevant homework. He also makes sure I have proper techniques and embouchure, even when it means I have to relearn something, in order not to have any issues down the road.
Alan is an amazing, kind, gifted and and experienced teacher. He intuitively knows how to engage the interest of small children and interest them in music theory. As a musician he is passionate about his instrument and shares his love of music with positivity and gentle encouragement. There is a strong balance of fun alongside of steady pathways through learning step by step, that is great for a young student and I am sure for a student of any age. It will definitely be a wonderful experience to have an opportunity to do lessons with him! Go for it! :-)
