Tell us when your passion for music started and, more specifically, when the love for your instrument started:

I am a 26-years-old cellist from Granada (Spain) based now here in Utrecht to develop my professional career in a more international way. Since I was born, I have been listening music in my house, inspired by my father, who is also musician, which made me discover and love the beauty of the music since I was a child. My father is also luthier, and I am lucky to have a cello made by him.

What music could you play gray without going crazy?:

As a classical musician, I really feel the passion inside it and I love it, so I could be playing it all my life without going crazy (well, maybe after a long day practizing, the madness can come a bit...). But lately, I have discovered (playing it) more modern music, like jazz, pop, bossa,..., by playing with modern groups, and also baroque music, because now I am specializing also in baroque cello. And in both cases, I could also be playing this music always without going crazy. Surprisingly, rock and baroque music have a lot in common...Let´s Bar-Rock!!!

Tell us about the most difficult or special lesson you have ever given!:

Well, every lesson is a "difficult" situation, in the way that I always do my best for it. And this is because for me, a good music teacher is one who understands that music is an art, and a very special and vocational discipline, and therefore needs a very personalized treatment. Therefore, a good teacher is one who understands the needs and peculiarities of each student, and that teaching music should be something passionate and fun, and therefore adjusts each of his lessons with this in mind, to make each of them a genuine experience for the student. And this is a huge challege! But we are here to win it.

  • 04

What do you think is the most difficult instrument to master and why?:

I would say the voice, because in one hand, it is the instrument that is the most proper and personal instrument, which we have and always have, and which is undeniably genuine in each case. But on the other hand, voice control is something extremely precise and difficult to control. We string players always use the musical lines as a reference to singers to "sing" with our instrument. And this is not by chance, since its naturalness and beauty is enviable. We all need a good singer inside us (even if we don't sing) to play an instrument well.

  • 05

What do you think are the keys to success (besides the sol- and fa-key)?:

The key to success as an instrumentalist is always constant work and possession of good information, which seems obvious, but is extremely difficult. A good guide provides good information, and a spirit of self-improvement, constant work. Apart from that, and above all else, the most important thing is to love what you do, and to have a real passion for it.

  • 06

Name one or more musicians with whom you would like to jam in a bar at 2 a.m. and tell us why!:

Well, if I could do a magic trick, I would call Haydn to play a while with him. But being in a bar, I would prefer to make a call to Jacob Collier (if I would have his phone number...), because he is a real genious and a so crazy person!

  • 07

Can you tell us a nice anecdote that has to do with your profession or your own school hours (and not necessarily how you celebrated being admitted to the Conservatoire)?:

Once, I got lost and forgot to go out and play at the time of the performance with an orchestra, because I was warming up in the dressing room. When I realized that, I thought it was going to be really embarrassing to go out and play in the middle of the music, so I thought I'd go out while playing the cello at the same time that walking with the music that was playing in the orchestra, to do something funny to the audience and take some of the weight off. After all, the director raised me up to applaud me at the end of the concert (although in the dressing room he threw a good row at me!). It was all a funny anecdote!

  • 08

What makes you a beloved Superprof with all your students? (A little bragging about yourself never hurts, right?):

I always try to be a fun and motivating teacher, and give the best solution to any circumstance of my students. Apart from that, I am very flexible with the classes, and try to create a real bond with the students. I can't say anything in retrospect, but I invite you to try it out for yourself!
